Global nickel production to decline 7.4% this year (GlobalData)

Global nickel production will decline 7.4% this year to 2.19 million tonnes. According to a report by GlobalData published this week, this drop will be the consequence of the ban on the export of raw ore decided at the beginning of the year by Indonesia, the world's largest producer, even though the Covid-19 pandemic has contributed to make the situation worse.

Huawei MateBook 14 laptop gets a makeover

After announcing its upcoming arrival in Europe, Huawei is opening pre-orders for a new version of its MateBook 14 laptop with AMD Ryzen 4000 processors.

Huawei has opened pre-orders for the Huawei MateBook 14 2020 AMD. As its name suggests, this series incorporates an AMD chip - a Ryzen processor from the 4000 series - unlike the MateBook 14 which we have already tested and which for its part includes a 10th generation Intel processor. On the Intel version, we appreciated the build quality of the chassis and the diversity of its connectivity (for an ultraportable), with USB-C, USB-A and HDMI ports.

And good news, Huawei is not changing a winning formula and has decided to use the exact same chassis. Only the nature of the processor changes. For the rest of the components, there are 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage space while the screen uses the same 14-inch panel in 3: 2 format with a definition of 2160 x 1440 pixels.

The real surprise is the integration of a Ryzen H series CPU, with a thermal envelope of 45 W unlike U series processors limited to 15 W. The choice is given between a Ryzen 5 4600H (6 cores / 12 threads ) and a Ryzen 7 4800H. As a reminder, the larger the thermal envelope of a processor, the more it will be able to ramp up and hold high frequencies over time. This will therefore be a guarantee of increased performance, but it is not without compensation. Indeed, higher frequencies at the level of the processor imply a greater heat release. 



The MateBook 14 was a good student in terms of displayed temperatures and little noise. We therefore hope that this choice of processor will not come at the expense of these two factors. Unlike the Intel MateBook 14, no dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX350 graphics card here, so you'll have to rely on the integrated Radeon Vega 6 or Vega 7 graphics part depending on the processor chosen.

The 2020 Huawei MateBook 14 AMD will be available from October 13 at a price of € 899 for the version with Ryzen 5 4600H and € 1099 for the version with Ryzen 7 4800H and is already for pre-order on the Huawei website.
